West Worcestershire Conservatives have forsaken local connections to choose one of Cameron's 'A' listers as their next parliamentary candidate, a pensions and investment manager for J P Morgan based in the City of London .
West Worcestershire Liberal Democrats have already selected Richard Burt as their candidate, who hopes to wrestle the marginal seat from the Conservatives at the next general election.
Richard Burt said: "People in West Worcestershire are telling me they want a strong local campaigner to stand up for their interests across the constituency, and I don't see how somebody who works in the City of London can do that.
"The Tories have missed a trick by not selecting someone who can commit fully to the area. This will be viewed by many as a mistake."
Liberal Democrat Constituency Chairman, Charles Tucker said: "Richard won our nomination on his second selection contest in West Worcestershire, having finished a close second to Tom Wells four years ago. He has campaigned with us in the constituency and shown himself to be a hard working and effective politician who will serve the interests of this area well. West Worcestershire is set to be a key battleground between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives with Sir Michael Spicer standing down."
