West Worcestershire's Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt, is urging air travellers in Worcestershire to offset their share of the fight's CO2 emissions to help combat global warming.
"Air flights are by far the most damaging to the environment because of the large amounts of carbon dioxide produced from jet engines. As part of our own efforts to combat global warming, I have ensured that our family holiday to Slovenia this summer was carbon neutral by paying just £15 towards UK based forestry after our share of the flight's CO2 emissions were calculated at www.co2balance.com.
"Malvern Hills residents recorded the biggest carbon footprint in a West Midlands study published by the World Wildlife Fund earlier this year, and if you fly, that adds up to a lot of extra carbon.
"By visiting www.co2balance.com you can calculate the CO2 emissions resulting from your flight and compensate by contributing towards new forests in the UK. Our return journey for four was calculated to produce 1.64 tonnes of carbon. Just imagine what that adds up to for people in Worcestershire alone travelling by air! We could all contribute to making these flights carbon neutral," said Richard.
