Worcestershire Sauce
West Worcestershire's Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt, has welcomed the return of Lea & Perrins Sauce bottling to Midland Road, Worcester, saying that production of the world famous branded sauce is 'coming home'. The production move was recently announced by parent company Heinz after its decision to close its plant in Aston, Birmingham, with a loss of 120 jobs.
"Like my wife, Lorely Burt MP, I regret Heinz's decision to move production of HP sauce to Holland, but we have been able to confirm that a total of sixteen extra jobs will be created in the city from January 2007 as a result of bringing Worcestershire Sauce bottling home to Worcester.
"Heinz have informed Lorely that a total of seven jobs in production and quality will be created at the beginning of January 2007, and a further nine jobs in Research and Development will also move to Worcester during the first quarter of 2007.
"Every new job is welcome and I am delighted to see production of the world famous Worcestershire Sauce returning to its rightful home in the county," said Richard.
