West Midlands Lib Dem MEP Liz Lynne at a battery recycling plant
Lib Dem-led Malvern Hills District Council has saved money by recycling more, said West Worcestershire's Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt.
"Figures from the Audit Commission show that 6,500 tonnes of extra materials have been recycled since the Lib Dem led district council introduced kerbside recycling four years ago," said Richard Burt.
"At £21 per tonne landfill tax, this means around £136,000 of council taxpayers money has been saved to re-invest in local services and keep the Council Tax low.
"The Council is years ahead of Government targets for recycling, but they are not complacent and know they can do much more.
"Residents should be congratulated for the enthusiastic way in which they have taken up the challenge to recycle more. They are making a real effort to improve the environment right across the district."
