Local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt today presented over 2000 petitions against post office closures from residents in West Worcestershire to his party's leader, Nick Clegg in Westminster.
Mr Clegg, who highlighted Lib Dem plans to invest £2billion to protect post offices in a recent visit to the county, received the petitions on the last day of Parliament before the summer recess. They will now be added to over 50,000 petitions already delivered to No 10 in response to the government's post office closure programme.
Richard said: "I would like to thank everyone who has signed this important petition, including many residents who collected signatures themselves and local sub-postmasters who displayed our petition on their counter.
"People seem united against the government's post office closure programme, which could see around half a dozen more go locally when the Post Office hit list is published on 27th August.
"Once we know which post offices are under threat, we will redouble our efforts with local people to fight these closures through the consultation process."
