Local Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt today condemned the Post Office's public consultation as a 'cynical exercise' following the announcement that Rushwick, Link Top, Poolbrook and Hanley Castle would close.
Richard, who campaigned to save all four branches said: "It will be bitterly disappointing for staff and customers who campaigned so hard to save this vital community service.
"The entire six week consultation has turned out to be nothing more than a cynical exercise.
"Despite thousands of local people voicing their strong opposition to closure, it's now clear the Post Office had no intention of changing their mind.
"I simply cannot understand why the Government is so determined to carve up the post office network against all public opinion.
"They forked out £37billion of taxpayers' money to bail out the banks, but refuse to invest in a first class post office service where people want it - serving their local community.
"I feel very sorry for the Sub-postmasters and staff who will now lose their jobs, and for those with poor mobility and without transport, often elderly, who will be forced to spend hours to reach their next nearest post office."
