Vince Cable MP speaks in front of Nelson's famous flag message to the British fleet before the Battle of Trafalgar: 'England expects every man to do his duty'.

Liberal Democrat shadow chancellor and deputy leader, Vince Cable received a nautical welcome when he visited Malvern last Saturday.

The politician who has gained a reputation for his unerring economic predictions was piped aboard the Main Deck at Malvern Sea Cadets' TS Duke of York headquarters as Guest of Honour for his local party's annual dinner.

Earlier, Mr Cable attended a round table 'crunch brunch' with parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt and small and medium business bosses from across the county. Both men also spoke on the economic crisis at a reception hosted in Malvern Theatres.

Speaking after the dinner, the Liberal Democrat deputy described the situation for business owners in the county as "quite frightening".

He applauded the Bank of England decision to cut interest rates and said that government must now follow with tax cuts targeted to help low and medium income families.

Richard Burt said that Mr Cable had become something of a seer as far as the economy was concerned and also praised the uniformed cadets and officers for their superb service waiting at table throughout the evening.
