Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt has sent a submission to members of the Regional Flood Defence Committee in advance of their crucial meeting on 14th January, calling on them to provide funding for flood defences in Pershore.
Mr Burt said that the scheme, costing £0.5million would protect nearly 60 homes in the town and was essential with the increased likelihood of future flooding due to climate change.
"I know the Pershore scheme is being considered for funding from both the regional levy and from money available nationally.
My concern is that if Pershore is not given priority on the 14th because other schemes are not being considered for national funds, the town could miss out altogether this year.
"I have asked members to consider the scheme on its merits alone and ignore the possibility of national funding at a later date, because competition from larger schemes would make success for the town far from certain."
