Tenbury's Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt spoke to Tenbury Town Council at their meeting last night [Monday 6 April] and called for unity in the bid for flood defences.
He said that everyone should get behind the Town Council to create a shared vision and a plan to secure flood defences and economic regeneration for the town.
Mr Burt said: "There is no prospect of this current government stumping up the £5million needed to build flood defences. We need to work with the Town Council and Environment Agency to draw in financial support from other partners like Advantage West Midlands, through their Rural Regeneration fund, and the Midlands Flood Defence Committee through their Flood Levy fund.
Richard today issued a pledge, along with county council candidate Cliff Slade, to work with all parties to back the Town Council in their efforts to secure flood defences.
"Both Cliff Slade and I have made recent public calls for all concerned to pull together.
"Today we have written to the Mayor of Tenbury to assure him that we are ready and willing to work with all parties to help the town council secure the flood defences Tenbury so desperately needs.
"We will not let party politics get in the way of what is best for the town."
