Lib Dems Step Up RSS Campaign In Parliament As Housing Minister Declines To Comment On SWHAG Proposals

Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate and South Worcestershire Housing Action Group (SWHAG) campaigner, Richard Burt, today vented his frustration with Housing Minister, John Healey, who has refused to comment on SWHAG's alternative vision for housing development, and vowed to keep up the pressure on Government to suspend its mass housing plans.
He is urging all Worcestershire's MPs to support an Early Day Motion in Parliament tabled by Liberal Democrat MP, John Hemming, calling on Government to suspend the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy.
Commenting today, Richard said: "I am extremely disappointed that the Housing Minister has not seen fit to reply directly to SWHAG, instead using a proxy from the Government Office for the West Midlands to fob off local campaigners, saying it would be "inappropriate for him to respond" at this stage in the process.
"However, I am not prepared to let matters lie there. Campaigners from all over South Worcestershire have put tremendous time and effort into producing this document which provides an alternative vision for housing development in South Worcestershire which is realistic and locally focused.
"I am delighted that John Hemming has agreed to table a motion in Parliament calling for the suspension of the West Midlands regional Spatial Strategy, and hope that all Worcestershire's MPs will take time during the long summer recess to sign it."

That this House has no confidence in the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy; and calls on the Government to abandon it immediately and instead give local authorities the freedom to solve their own local housing problems.
