Liberal Democrat MP, Lembit Opik was the special guest at a meeting in Malvern last Friday to discuss his party's alternatives to the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for housing development in South Worcestershire.
Mr Opik said that his Party would suspend the process and allow local communities and councils to determine their own housing needs.
He said the current plans did not reflect the real needs of local communities and did not take account of the increased strain on transport systems in rural areas or the cultural changes that grafting large settlements onto existing towns and villages would cause.
Mr Opik called on local groups campaigning against the RSS to keep the pressure on local councils and government ministers as they would be more responsive to community pressure in the run up to elections.
Around forty campaigners attended the meeting which was chaired by Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt.
