Lib Dem Council Hits 25% Recycling Target5.02.10pm GMT Fri 10th Mar 2006
The Lib Dem run District Council uses specialist split-bodied freighters to operate a successful alternating sack system to collect plastics and cans in one week and paper and textiles the next. All of this in addition to a collection every week of general waste. Waste minimization and recycling has been local Lib-Dems lead priority for many years. And we have now met this year's target by recycling more than 25% of refuse. The purpose-built Depot Site in Pendragon Close is the new base for refuse collection from homes in the Malvern Hills District. Custom-built by the council, the base was finished on time and without cost over-run. Lib-Dems support the Eco-Schools project, co-ordinated by Worcestershire County Council, which ensures the promotion and knowledge of recycling and waste minimization to a wide audience. Recently, schools, Parent Teacher Associations and the public have asked for the waste recycling service to be extended to schools. Sixth formers from the Chase High School spoke in favour of this proposal at a Malvern Hills District Council meeting.
