Decision On Cancer Satellite Unit Welcomed

6.32.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 7th Aug 2008

Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt has welcomed the decision of the Three Counties Cancer Network board to establish a satellite cancer radiotherapy centre at Worcester.

The proposal is to place one linear accelerator at Worcester and one at Hereford to save patients travelling to the Oncology Centre at Cheltenham for straightforward radiotherapy treatment.

Mr Burt held talks with Hospital Trust and Three Counties Network Trust bosses to support the Worcester bid

Richard said: "This was a sensible decision that catered for the needs of Worcestershire and Herefordshire patients. More will benefit in Worcestershire, but patients in Herefordshire must travel further.

It's a win-win for both counties and I hope the plans will be approved when they are considered by their Primary Care Trusts later this year."
