County Council Publicity Budget Spiralled Over Four Years

2.43.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 28th Apr 2009

Information uncovered by the Liberal Democrats reveals that the press and communications budget for Worcestershire County Council spiralled by 175% over four years, rising from £225,400 in 2004 to £621,000 in 2008 under Conservative control.

Worcestershire County Council registered the third largest percentage increase for this period amongst the 55 councils surveyed.

"Hard pressed Worcestershire residents will be wondering just how on earth Conservative councillors can justify this rise at a time when needs are growing and service provision is being cut to the bone.

"It beggars belief that the Conservatives should come close to trebling their media budget over this period and shows just how out of touch they are with local priorities."
