Don't Miss The Boat For Tenbury Flood Defence Money!

8.13.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 7th Sep 2009

Richard Burt, has warned local councils they cannot afford to miss out on up to £650,000 of Government money to protect 130 homes that suffered from flooding in Tenbury Wells.

Richard is concerned to ensure that up to £5000 in Government grant money is made available for each flood damaged home in the town.

Richard said: "Hilary Benn announced a £5million property level flood protection scheme late last year for homes damaged by frequent flooding that would not be protected by area flood defences in the near future.

"We have struggled to make headway with town flood defences, so any money that can be found to protect each individual home would be a Godsend.

"Why, then, has Tenbury already missed out on the first round of grants awarded to 25 Councils by Hilary Benn in June this year?

"We must not miss the boat for the second round of bidding due to be announced in October.

"Councils will have two months to put in their bids, and the awards will be announced one month afterwards.

"Let's make sure this time Tenbury residents get the support they deserve, and are not let down by local Councils or Government again."
