Richard Burt and National Flood Forum Chief Executive Mary Dhonau took to the streets of Upton on Saturday to gather support for Upton Flood Defence Forum's petition for Environment Agency flood defence plans.

Richard and Mary signed the petition and also joined members of the Flood Forum speaking to members of the public, helping to collect over 800 signatures in the town centre.

"It's absolutely essential for businesses and residents that Upton gets its permanent flood defences. Without it, the future prosperity of the town will be put in jeopardy" said Richard.

Geoff Stocker, Chairman of Upton Flood Forum said: "Over the weekend we have seen strong support for the Environment Agency's scheme.

"Businesses and individuals are asking how they can contribute and support it."
