Dan's Plan to tackle the cost-of-living crisis

The Conservatives have crushed the economy and people across West Worcestershire have been left paying the price. Mortgage have skyrocketed and energy bills remain too high. We are calling for an emergency support fund for mortgage borrowers, for those residents most at risk of losing their homes. The Liberal Democrats are also calling for measures to support and safeguard renters, and would extend Free School Meals to all children in primary education and all secondary school children whose families receive Universal Credit.

Locally, Dan has been working hard to support those most vulnerable. He has campaigned for a cost-of-living package at the district council, has always stood for fairer wages in the public and private sectors and is working with residents to tackle food insecurity locally. No-one should have to choose between heating and eating.

Dan says: "I'm proud that Liberal Democrat councillors were instrumental in setting up the local charity Act-On Energy 25 years ago. It now supports the most in need when they have to pay their bills or replace a boiler. It is not just those in rental accomodation that are feeling the pinch. With Liz Truss' attack on the economy, mortgages continue to rise and so when things go wrong, more and more residents are struggling to heat their homes. Act-On Energy have not only handed out considerable support to residents in need, they have also given invaluable advice and help to residents on home energy efficiency and energy costs."

West Worcestershire needs an MP who understands how tough things are and will stand up for residents.

Everyone in West Worcestershire deserves a safe and affordable place to live, and enough money coming in to heat their home and eat properly. I'm proud that the Liberal Democrats are leading the way with proper solutions to the cost-of-living crisis and I will always champion support for those most in need.

Lib Dem plan to tackle the cost-of-living crisis

✅ Help people with the cost of living and their energy bills by implementing a proper, one-off windfall tax on the super-profits of oil and gas producers and traders.

✅ Protect the 'Triple-lock' on pensions, ensuring pensioners are protected from inflation.

✅ Make taxes fair, ensuring that tax burdens don’t fall disproportionately on low earners, reversing the Conservatives’ tax cuts for big banks, and abolishing the separate Capital Gains tax-free allowance, to tax income from wealth more similarly to income from work.

✅ Give taxpayers real value for money, by clamping down on tax avoidance and evasion, narrowing the tax gap, and giving HMRC more resources to properly tackle tax fraud, which has cost the taxpayer billions under the Conservatives.

✅ Safeguard the UK’s economic prosperity while making the investments our country needs. We will make sure that day-to-day spending does not exceed the amount of money raised in taxes over the medium term, with additional flexibility during periods of economic crisis.

✅ Uphold fiscal responsibility by ensuring that all fiscal events are accompanied by forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility.
