Lib Dem Councillor calls for more action on air pollution in Pershore and Pinvin
Liberal Democrat District Councillor, and candidate for county council on May 6th, Dan Boatright is using his campaign to highlight the issues of air pollution in the Pershore and Pinvin. Using a mobile air pollution sensor, he is measuring the levels of Nitrogen Dioxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Carbon Dioxide and Particles (both PM2.5 and PM10). The sensor shows the Air Quality Index, which is used by the government and World Health Organisation to communicate the level of risk pollution is creating in an area.
After Conservative run Wychavon District council refused to spend £30,000 tripling the council's air quality monitoring network, so as to cover busy road junctions and outside schools, Cllr Dan Boatright bought the pollution monitor himself.
Cllr Dan Boatright says 'Since I was elected to Wychavon District Council in May 2019 residents have repeatedly expressed concern about the levels of pollution in the area, with more large lorries driving through our town and villages. We have also seen a rise in slow traffic and vehicles idling on our main roads as we have come out of lockdown. So I was keen to collect data to determine see the scale of the issue."
